We spoke to two community organisations that are dedicating their life's purpose to giving back through sustainable action.
Live2Give Foundation
CEO Fawzia Suliman notes that the LIVE2GIVE Foundation is “a foundation founded by friends driven by a common purpose to Give Back," with a strong focus on sustainable action and tangible evidence of impact.
Our mission is to empower the disadvantaged in our communities by supporting their educational needs.
The Live2Give Foundation works closely with the community of Eldorado Park, a suburb of Johannesburg which lies on the southern boundary of Soweto. Having developed a meaningful connection with residents of this community, Live2Give supports a feeding scheme of over 300+ families each week alongside an additional 50 food hampers provided on a daily basis in conjunction with their local radio station Eldos FM. Further, over 500 students receive sanitary products on a monthly basis.
In light of COVID-19, Live2Give has established food projects including a feeding scheme and food hampers to residents of Freedom Park, an informal settlement within Eldorado Park, by partnering with a local bakery and butchery.

Their daily feeding scheme consists of the following: per family from Monday to Friday receives freshly baked loaves of bread that are distributed, along with a weekly distribution of four cans of basic pantry staples. This is inclusive of peanut butter, jam, beans and vegetable curry. An additional weekly meat package is provided to each household.
The Live2Give Foundation has also recently introduced a weekly fresh soup delivery to the communities' elderly residents and safe homes.
A thousand soaps and more than 600 sanitisers were distributed to the elderly, children’s homes and residents in informal settlements. To Donate to the Live2Give Foundation:

I Am For Her Foundation
The I AM FOR HER FOUNDATION (IAFHF) is a non-profit organisation founded in 2019, which aims to provide sustainable solutions to the menstrual hygiene and well-being challenges of indigent adolescent girls in Southern Africa.
Chairperson Nicky Cupido told To EmpowHER there is no dignity in being unable to clean yourself, which is a basic human right enshrined in the Constitution and Bill of Rights. With schools being closed, many girls are denied access to free sanitary products.
During this lockdown period, many foundations have been focusing on the acquisition and distribution of food parcels to indigent/poorer communities. We focus on providing sanitary towels and dignity packs. This is in line with our core mandate of returning dignity to our indigent girls.

Some organisations IAFHF donated sanitary towels and dignity packs to are M.E.S (Mould Empower Serve) via the NG Kerk in Panorama, Cape Town; The Haven Night Shelter, Bellville Branch; Umaluzi Youth Group, Khayelitsha; Communities of Wallace Dene and Westlake; Nkosi Children’s’ Home and the Haven Night Shelter branches of Bellville, Claremont and Kraaifontein.
The organisations which we identified as beneficiaries for the sanitary towels were chosen either because of an existing relationship where the need for donations of sanitary towels were identified, or we identified organisations via the social media platforms of their particular drives and we saw that we could assist them by adding the sanitary towels to their food or care packages.
Nicky notes that since the implementation of the national lockdown they have managed to donate 15890 sanitary products.
The I Am For Her foundation is still accepting donations for sanitary products in order to continue providing relief to women and girls.
